Calling all ascii experts!!!

I'm new at this ascii art, so I don't really know much about it.  I was 
wondering if anyone knows how you can get colour in this pictures?  The 
reason I'm asking is that someone sent me an ascii Christmas tree with 
colour and flashing lights.  I didn't even know that you could get colour 
in it in the first place.
