 I like watching the token clerks (someday to be known as card clerks, a
 little less demeaning maybe?) run the Metrocard through the computer with
 an LCD screen and metal case thick enough to make it look like cold war
 surplus.

 One of these days I'll run into Ann Fine logging into Echo on those.

 I used to introduce myself at parties as a token washer --
 temporary work, of course.  It was fun watching fellow postcollegeiate
 media types choke out a "Wow, that's interesting," etc.
