 I'll raise my hand and say I wanted to hear that he'd either blown off his
 head or taken down a few SWAT team members.

 Sure.  But that's because I don't really feel like any of it was actually
 *real*.  In substance it was *exactly* like a weird TV show, or radio show
 in my case.

 Course that's the gut.  the head knows it was real and the heart feels bad
 for all that happened and is glad it's over, but they are drowned out by
 this really intense sense of hearing a story.  And being disappointed in the
 ending.  Which reminds me it was real life cos not even the worst schlocks
 would have ended it that way.  that leads me back to a little sympathy.
