I'm convinced that it's because there are more yuppies living on the East Side, and they're irritating cranky fucks who complain if they see anything out of the ordinary like a yellow train. This is perhaps the only contribution to civilization made by yuppies. So, you may ask, is it safe to ride the subways if you stay on the East Side? OF COURSE IT ISN'T! While there are no yellow trains, other dangers abound. The Transit Authority is just somewhat more subtle in this part of town. What they do is run THE GHOST 5 TRAIN. It looks like a normal 5 train, but there's nobody on it, and it usually never stops. It fools most people - they just think it's an out-of-service train. I thought so too, until I saw it the last FOUR TIMES I was waiting for the 4/5. The last time, something really weird happened: The train stopped, and ONE DOOR opened. This was in Union Square, and a big crowd was waiting, but ONE PERSON stepped out of the crowd, in a trance, and got on the train. Everyone else in the station totally ignored it. The doors closed, and the train took off. I don't know where it went, but you can bet that it wasn't Bowling Green. Hi Janet! Be careful; I'd hate to hear that you disappeared in the subway. - - - - - .
