There's a very interesting book by a psychologist, Howard Garder, called "Frames of Mind" where he posits a theory of multiple intelligences. He talks about the ability to be sensitive to physical matters as a whole realm of intelligence which is often poorly developed in all but the best athletes... By the way, if you rent a t.v. while you're in there, you'll probably find Group One Medical ... it's one of those cinema verite' type programs which are all the rage these days showing different patients talking to doctors about different diseases. 10 (of 27) SLIM D Jan. 7, 1989 at 22:19 (411 characters) Lisa - What a strange and unexpected idea... Body-sense as a type of intelligence. Viewed from a perspective of artificial intelligence, it's quite appropriate. Working with senses in AI applications is one of the more challenging aspects. But sense viewed as a primary marker of intelligence in humans--or animals? It's, well, unexpected. I'll have to see if that book is in the Hospital library tomorrow. .
