 9 a.m.: Walking downtown, I observe young guy at 81st & Columbus wearing
 extraordinary green sport coat with plaid patch pockets. Am appreciating
 him when he asks me the time. Don't have watch, but tell him I like the the
 jacket. Elderly lady beside us tells him the time.
 5:50 pm: on platform of N train at 42nd Street, same guy, same jacket. We
 nod and acknowledge each other. He asks me the time. I tell him I think
 it's about 10 of 6, since I've just asked somebody else. He remembers that
 I don't have a watch. We wait a very long time for a train. He gives up and
 goes to get a cab. 10 seconds later the train comes.
