 Nick--There *are* no powers that be.

 Erin and Tom's classical refs remind me how sloppily we use the word
 "Hero" to equal "neat guy."  (Though my personal pet peeve for label
 misapplication is "Charismatic," which has a very technical meaning [in
 short, someone whose authority is derived solely from his his claim to it].
 JFK was *not* charismatic.  Perot [no endorsement implied] comes much
 closer.)  Anyway.....
