Hello folks on Mastodon 👋I spend my days as a coder and sometime my evenings too, when I am not gaming or watching a series. I am interested in many geeky stuff, video-games, fantasy, sci-fi, old machinery… I’m always keen to learn something new.I also love photography and will sometimes post photos, in addition to my (future) “ordinary” posts about whatever cross my mind 🙂#introduction

Today I could test the famous #Analogue Pocket retro console, which emulates the #Gameboy and Gameboy Advance with a #FPGA. It is known for its accuracy and the ability of its gorgeous display to render pictures very close to the original consoles.Let see if its reputation is well deserved. A thread in two posts.First the Gameboys. In black and white, the fidelity is beyong expectations! Less so against the color display unfortunately.1/2 #emulation #retrogaming #gba #fpga

I wrote a detailed article about the inner side and the engineering of Windows 3.x.Most people affirm it is only a subpar GUI on top of DOS, but it is much more than that! Win3.11 on a 386 is not as far from #Win95 as we could imagine.https://xtof.info/inside-windows3.html#Windows #DOS #retrocomputing

I wrote an extensive article about the Mac Mini G4 as a retro-gaming machine. For me it is near perfect as it is able to run almost anything from the late 80s up to early 2000s. And it has a very reduced footprint and can be easily plugged into modern display 🙂 This article also expose some technical aspects such as the way PowerPC Mac OS machines could ran 680x0 software and delves into the history of PowerPC until the G4.https://www.xtof.info/MacMiniG4-the-best-classic-macintosh-for-retrogaming.html#retrogaming #retrocomputing #apple #mac #powerpc

@_elena @Otis_Scops @randahl Great video. The part where you highlight that openness, interoperability and how the Fedoverse acts like giant network is “mind blowing”; it underlines how much we collectively forgot about what the Internet was supposed to be.
