@mntmn ~4.5" depending on aspect ratio. Though that's a hand limitation, not a pocket limitation.

@mntmn The did WHAT?Ffs did they completely misunderstand emoji?Emoji are ideograms. Their value is derived not just from their appearamce, but from repeated use of the same emoji by many people in a particular type of situation. This can only work if there are FEW EMOJIS. Why the hell woulf they think infinitely many emojis is a good idea???!

@mntmn but if you're a store in Germany, and you sell the stuff you imported to consumers, they pay VAT to you, and you deduct the VAT you already paid on import from the amount you have to transfer to the govt, right? And if you're a store in the US, I magne you still have to charge the sales tax on imported goods, and forward that to the govt, and you can't deduct import VAT cause you didn't pay any?I think it'd make sense if it worked like that.

@mntmn From what I've heard, it's a mess. Some states have 0% sales tax, some have nonzero. The rules on which transations the sales tax applies to are a mess, and it's not deductible, so some products are taxed multiple times, eg. there's sales tax on the materials used to make them and then another sales tax on the final product.

@mntmn doesn't that app also use jonmastodon.org API to find metadata about your instance before even trying to log in?

@mntmn I use Ansible for configuration management on my home servers, and recently I started trying to also manage a laptop with it.For OS installation itself I ended up using a shell script, since that has less depdendencies so it takes less manual steps to run it on a freshly booted ArchISO.But for things like installing packages, setting up configs in /etc, as well as dotfiles, I'm trying to use ansible.1/

@mntmn @piggo Definitely, and I completely forgot that modern printers have all this DRM nonsense that yours doesn't have.So it looks like a strong start indeed!

@jannem @mntmn AFAIK the way these LLM tools work is they have an embedding of words into a vector space, they index text by converting every word in a every document to a vector, and storing it in a database together with ID of the document it came from, and then when you search, they turn each of the query words into vectors, and search for K nearest neighbors in the vector space for each of them. Then they feed the documents they found to an LLM.What if you skipped the last step?

@mntmn @aks what? It's open source, at $previousjob we've been using it for years without paying anyone...*looks at https://zulip.com/plans/#self-hosted *oh, they charge for doing mobile push through their servers :/but they say open-source projects could be eligible to a free "community plan" which also has unlimited push notifications?

@mntmn @aks I remember XMPP had sth[1] where each client author could provide their own push server that talks to the Google's/Apple's push notifications API, and there was a way for XMPP servers to discovered it.For each XMPP client implementation it's still a centralized service, but people can switch XMPP clients individually. But IIRC Conversations also just tries to do idle TCP if it can, bypassing OS's push infrastructure.1/[1]: https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0357.html
