Email alternatives:Note that I currently pay $50USD/year for FastMailhttps://runbox.com/app/account/plans looks like it will end up around 15% more expensive than FastMail for me, I will have to seriously think about dropping a couple of my domains.https://migadu.com/pricing/ lol, I'm not going to count the number of emails in/out per day, although checking the past 3 years I don't get that much email any more (RIP to the open Internet, right?). I wonder if that includes spam. One of the only providers I've seen with IPv6 MX records.https://mailbox.org/en/private-customers#price-plans looks okay but works out at twice the cost of FastMail yearly - without tax, I think, if I go for the same amount of storage I currently have.I could probably drop some of my archives and fit in the 3 EUR/month plan, though.Microsoft 365 no longer has custom domain support: https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/office/changes-to-microsoft-365-email-features-and-storage-e888d746-61e5-49e3-9bd1-94b88e9be988PS: no one's going to deliver email to IPv6-only hosts, are they?#FastMail

Another feature I was just reminded of that's definitely nice to have: read-only IMAP passwords.

#AskFedi Does anyone have an alternative for #Macrium Reflect? I need to occasionally image my machines, Macrium is the only one I've seen with Volume Shadow Copy (Online backup) that works well. However, they've refused to release the file format and I've had a couple of images become corrupted.

Next up is AOMEI which looks like this and has shown me several popup ads already.

AOMEI seems to be running okay, but the "ADI" file format starts with a header of "BIFH" instead of anything I'd expect. I can't easily find a file format description.

**Stopping for now, there's still too much I don't understand in even the uncompressed files. Samples at https://static.voltagex.org/aomei/sample.7z, 100kb download, 100MB unpacked.Files created with qemu 7 and https://www2.aomeisoftware.com/download/adb/AOMEIBackupperStd.exe (7.4.0)**Can someone ask the EU to mandate that all file formats are described publicly so I don't have to do this, as fun as it is?#ReverseEngineering Start of ADI file format:Spent way too long chasing compressed data that was actually Unicode. All strings written by the application are unicode.Header BIFHTrailer BIFTBytes between 10h and 2Fh change dramatically per fileDrive ID at 3984789 [3CCD95h] probably depends on length of file but needs more investigation because it might be a *destination* drive IDComment at 3984432 [3CCC30h]Filename / Backup name at 44hData is going to take a lot more work but if you have UNCOMPRESSED ADI files (not the default!) you MAY be able to carve your data straight out of the file.If the backup is compressed, it's zlib.

I'd appreciate some help with this at some point if anyone else is interested * scripting qemu-img and whatever tooling allows you to generate vhdx files with content in them* help understanding the compressed ADI files. "Normal" compression I can almost understand, "Max" compression looks completely random * help understanding what changes between two backups of identical drives * scripting and configuring Windows so it will stop immediately writing to mounted drives* scripting the AOMEI backup command line interface

Boost please!I would like to commission some art SPECIFICALLY to run through #Nightshade and post somewhere on my blog to trap scrapers.Total budget: $500AUD (negotiable)Preference given to marginalised creators in AU/NZNo NSFW art at this stage and I personally don't like horror or gore but otherwise go nuts. The art is yours to do with what you want but I will need some kind of agreement that says I can use it for anti-scraping purposes! I would also encourage others, especially in tech, who can afford it to do the same.Artists, please chime in here if I am completely off base.Nightshade/Glaze: https://nightshade.cs.uchicago.edu/faq.html #FuckAI #NoAI #NoAIArt

It is the end of 2024. #IPv6 should be turned on, it should be the default in most networked software and your (residential) ISP should be giving you a static /48.
