This account will not (or at least strives to not) post• images or other media without descriptions / alt text• things that likely make some of you feel sad, desperate, hopeless, angry or anxious without using content notices (e.g. frustrating politics, climate change, queer struggles, sex)• non-obvious misinformation, “April fools” jokes, wild speculation & conspiracy theories about serious things.I also won’t boost any of these. No matter how good your un-transcribed meme image is.

Interesting. According to Brent Spiner (the actor who plays the android Data in Star Trek: The Next Generation)1) it was Patrick Stewart's UK pronunciation of his character's name (day-tah instead of the US's dah-tah) that made this pronunciation canon, and2) the character of Data and the popularity of Star Trek has led to "day-tah" now being the common pronunciation in the US, too.https://youtu.be/xeqTMTOxid8 (π min)#StarTrek #StarTrekTNG #TNG #data #pronunciation #English #EnglishLanguage

Suppose you're using less(1) to view a config file that has lots of commented-out explanations and defaults:less /etc/ssh/ssh_configIt's hard to really see which lines are in effect and which are just comments, especially without syntax highlighting. But! You can use less's filtering capabilities to only display lines that start with a character that's not a hash symbol. Type "&" and enter a regular expression, then hit return. For example:&^[^#]Enter an empty regex to stop filtering.

Usual reminder that less can do a _lot_ of stuff that most people don't know about. It's one of the tools where reading the man page can really pay off.For example, you can display line numbers, set marks in your file and jump to them, add custom macro keybinds, and even use the mouse.I've used a combination of all of this to build a way to quickly navigate through huge man pages (e.g. bash) by displaying an outline of headings & jump to where you clicked:https://chaos.social/@scy/111329527207297835

Quick reminder, especially for new followers coming over from #Twitter: This is my _personal_ account. It will contain emotions & lewd thoughts. (But I strive to use appropriate CWs.)If you know me only from a professional setting, I’m still okay with you following me (else this account would be private), but please keep that in mind.If you’re looking for my other account only containing awesome software dev tips, rants & links – well, tough luck, it doesn’t exist. Only the whole package.

I mostly do software hacks, sometimes hardware ones. Crafting hacks are very rare, but here we are.I present to you: Magnetic Paracord. It's simply magnetic rings lined up on paracord. Very useful for non-permanently attaching light-ish things to metal surfaces, in irregular shapes, and with easy attachment and detachment. When you're using many small magnets and can't be bothered to attach/detach each one individually.I'm using it to attach mosquito net to the entrance of my van.

A friend of mine told me that they don't really know what Drum & Bass actually is, so I'm working on building a playlist to introduce people to the genre.I'm looking for your suggestions: Not necessarily just the "classics", but rather things that you'd consider an absolute banger. Songs that are the reason why you love DnB. Popular ones, or obscure ones, as long as they're really good. Also, I think I wanna keep the vibe more happy and positive, not too dark.#DnB #DrumAndBass #music

@frameworkcomputer: "Let's just continue doing marketing like nothing has happened. I'm sure the people desperately waiting for a statement to restore trust in us won't mind it at all!"

@bleeptrack Sure, if it's about "making art and having fun" for everyone. The thing is: It's not. Some people's livelihood depends on _selling_ the stuff that "AI" built by billionaires has scraped without consent and is now selling for profit, without adhering to license terms and without any compensation to the original creator. If complaining about this makes me "the opposite of cool", I don't wanna be cool.
