@bleeptrack @claudius It's a few layers of community drama deep. Here's the (very) brief.Omarchy is a Linux distro for Arch (or perhaps you might say it's an installable desktop rice/configuration). It's quite interesting as a project. Unfortunately, it's run by a guy called DHH, who has some weirdly alt-right views (white replacement theory, that type of thing, from what I've heard). The Hyprland project is a tiling window manager for Linux. Quite a cool project (i think all projects are cool). Anyways, unfortunately, it's got (or perhaps historically has, but is [maybe] getting better?) a kinda shitty toxic community. Like overtly transphobic mods who actively harass community members. Some of their problems might be grown out of now I'm not fully sure.

@bleeptrack @claudius Okay context out of the way, Framework laptops decided to drop a ton of funding on both of these projects. It's rubbed people the wrong way, because Framework advertising itself as an "ethical" tech company, it really shouldn't be funding shitty communities. They were called out by the community for funding fashy types, framework makes a big community post saying they don't wanna get political, and they believe in an open dialoge and community, and basically "fuck you we're funding them anyways you dumb sensetive libs" (not a real quote), they say that they believe in a "big tent" (real quote) approach when it comes to open source.Progressives are further pissed now because Framework refuses to even be remorseful for funding shitty xenophobic communities, instead of uplifting communities that do good to be nice to the people who join looking to be part of it.

@bleeptrack @claudius yeah, definitely recommend doing some reading on it. It's one of those incidents that kinda require a fine reading to understand. From what I'm hearing from others, the key point is that Framework was supposed to be one of the "good guys" in a sea of evil techno theocratic corporations. People saw their mission as inherently political, and are let down by the seeming change in attitude.

@bleeptrack @claudius (not that you didn't understand it, just like, to I guess settle on a well informed opinion. Don't wanna come off as condescending here lol, I'm just some rando who also only kind of understands this stuff lol)

Hey y'all! Apparently I got some new followers yesterday after one or two of my posts did well. Thanks for the follows! If you feel so inclined, go ahead and say hi in the comments! Optionally, you can also tell me anything about yourself: - What's your favorite animal? - What is it about fedi that draws you to it? What do you get out of using it? - What's something fun or positive that happened or you experienced recently?- Learned anything interesting lately?- Or anything else you wanna say!I feel like Mastodon and the fediverse are about emphasizing community, so why don't we lean into that and say hi! Social media can feel incredibly isolating when you've got so many followers and yet nobody to talk to. So if you'd like somebody to actually interact with, feel free to comment! That offer stands regardless of when you read this!

Finally getting around to writing my #introduction post:Hey! I'm River, I'm a Computer Science student in college. I like to write blogs about tech, computers, literature, leftist economics, and political science. I try to write consistently, but it doesn't always happen.I'm a big #scifi fan, trying to do more reading in the genre lately. Something I'm also interested in is #philosophy, especially #consciousness and #religion. I'm an agnostic atheist, but I don't get weird about it.I like to write mini-threads (~3 posts long) as a way to draft out ideas before writing bigger blog posts on my site.I might also share some #music that I listen to, but I won't ever spam it -- I prefer to talk about things that I share.Lover of em dashes -- humans like to use 'em too!DM's and email are totally open to whatever, I love getting messages!

Hey look, I exist! I've managed to bridge this Mastodon account over to Bluesky, so my posts are viewable at your convenience on either platform.I've added a new page to my website reflecting the different socials you can follow me through to get updates when I make a new blog post. https://riverseeber.net/follow-me/Currently, your options are:- Mastodon- Bluesky (bridged from Mastodon)- Threads (which is an app that uses the AP protocol, so really you're just following the same Mastodon account but with a different app)- RSS (my preferred method, though obviously not the most universal among most folks)The fact that a single Mastodon account can be viewed on so many different platforms/apps is so amazing to me. I truly love open protocols.
