@mntmn American taxpayers are supposed to declare such things on their tax return. (Certainly out-of-state purchases, and I assume imports too.) Approximately nobody does this, of course.

@mntmn Whether it is an "error" depends on your point of view. The purported reason that it is to encourage buying American only makes sense if it is even possible to buy American or that the American products are not priced out of the market. But it is very much by design. As it is, this is really just an across-the-board 15% tax hike on many goods which is ultimately paid by American consumers and pocketed by the US government (and thanks to corruption, no doubt diverted to Trump et al).

@mntmn I suspect one of their implicit requirements is x86 and/or a serious amount of grunt. I like the idea of a Reform machine, but the RK3588 is just too underpowered for my needs.

@mntmn I am not particularly attached to x86, but the RK3588 has similar benchmark results to my 10yo laptop (i7-4870HQ) and my 8yo desktop (Xeon E3-1245v6) is three times faster. It's hard to justify spending €1,400 to stand still when Ryzen chips exist and are at least ten times faster.

@mntmn Were I to actually go and do this, I'd probably just boot up a full VM running AmigaOS with a hacked Intution (probably mostly layers.library) which tells the hypervisor where it can find the window contents to display natively. I'd be also tempted to have one VM per application. The VM would also be useful for stuff which doesn't use the OS at all, of course, such as games.
