Using an old circular saw blade as an organic-sounding bell/chime/gong/whatever source with a piezo contact pickup, feeding it into a collection of FX and then into a Soma Cosmos “Drifting Memory Station”.

I'm quite happy with Pixelfed for my photos. I feel I get attention, but I don't need to post several images a day in order to "stay relevant" for any algorithm. The fact that you can't view images in higher resolutions in Instagram should be enough of a reason go not use it for photography. But actually, when I tried Insta, it felt like flushing my art down the toilet.

But then again, I'm not making a living from photography.Thing is, I was on Facebook a long time, and I work freelance in event tech. And yes, I had one important client finding me there. I'm not sure however, when I will arrive at break even with this, I can't count the hours I had put into Facebook, and the money even for highlighting content. So, one (in numbers: 1) client for all those years of making Zuckerberg profit. The question is: Do conversions happen? So do you get gigs because if Insta and Facebook? And I… I didn't, basically. Recently I tried LinkedIn and found out: This platform tries to entice you with counting "Impressions" everywhere. And then you think: Oh, this post had 98 impressions, great. And you are in danger of getting addicted to this fake attention, because an "impression" barely means anything on LinkedIn. After not even one month, I deleted my account again and I'm happy not to have any view counters on Mastodon and Pixelfed.

But also note: As an event tech professional, you usually don't work for amateur bands whose members are on Facebook. They can't afford your service anyways. You're working for people who don't go to Facebook and Insta, because it is a waste of time. Not so seldom they leave this to their social media manager. So you're not in touch with the decision maker of the client, but with their marketing department, basically. Recently I tried LinkedIn and found out: This platform tries to entice you with counting "Impressions" everywhere. And then you think: Oh, this post had 98 impressions, great. Basically you're talking AI without thinking of AI. AI is for people who don't see any point in going through the process. They're like… not going up the hill at all, they just go to the tunnel website and pop out on the other side of the mountain. They don't know about this wonderful feeling when you can apply the skills acquired during the journey without even thinking too much… it just works, and the outcome is great. Especially in music or drawing. Harder of course in photography, because you need something to be in front of your lens.

Actually, I have to convert my raw files from the GH6 to DNG using Adobe DNG Converter in order to work on them with Darktable or DigiKam. Now things should have improved, but notice: Only Adobe had support for the new raw format, and some other tool Panasonic recommended, which sucked badly. The situation could have been very different if Panasonic would just have released the specifications of their new format in sufficient detail for open source developers to use it. DxO Photolab is not available for Linux. Affinity are thinking about Linux, but not available at the moment. So, here comes Darktable again.

However, it can't do 32bit float color, and this starts to annoy me. So currently I'm often trying Darktable as raw converter and Gimp as an editor. Even though I started using Gimp over 20 years ago, it's so much a convenient tool to adjust parameters of photographs when compared to DigiKam.

I have tried a lot of the "good old" lenses, especially the Pentax-K range, since I started taking picture with Pentax. Then I got a set of Zeiss lenses from somebody. Well… what should I say? I'm using these with MFT, so I am only using part of the image such a lens can project. Turns out, they're really not made for today's resolution, as you say. Also, in some very old Zeiss lenses, the amount of chromatic aberration is very noticeable. Also, focus peeking is not the same as a good old split-image screen. So, I sold my Pentax-K collection. Well, the 50mm was actually great, but this translates to 100mm on MFT, which is a length I don't really need as a prime. I sometimes use a very old Zeiss 25mm, which really has some special look&feel. But the Zeiss 35mm… I often rather go for the below-100-bucks MeiKe 35mm for MFT.
