@mntmn @dartov It is done: https://mntre.com/reform-debian-repo/pool/main/r/reform-tools/ Run `apt full-upgrade` to get it. Main improvements are the fixes to the UCM profiles and disabled Gnome fractional scaling. I also just re-triggered the reform-system-image pipeline so that new installations can benefit from this. Now away for the rest of the day -- I hope nothing breaks! 🙃

@mntmn I thought redrivers are only needed to bridge longer distances? Why is one useful to have in the Next?

Spontaneous meet-up of :debian: Debian Developers owning a @mntmn MNT Reform open hardware laptop in a small cafe in Munich. The photo shows two classic MNT Reform with A311D, one classic Reform with i.MX8MQ and a MNT Pocket Reform with RK3588. #debian

@mntmn @holo_memory Thank you for the update! Is there any estimate on when we'll be able to buy motherboard 3.0 separately in the shop? I need two of them. :) I'm thinking about whether or not to wait with my RCORE carrier upgrade until then or not.

@mntmn I'm not a gnome user but this reminds me of the GPG pinentry dialog which is similarly sparse.

Presenting my lecture slides on the RK3588 MNT Pocket Reform beats having to carry the 17 inch Thinkpad from my employer around with me in my backpack (long-ish commute by bike and train).

@mntmn There is a tiiiiny bit of space left on the board -- maybe printing something on the silk screen would avoid having to decipher what the print on the DIP switch means? I had the exact same confusion you describe when reading the label. Even if the silk screen print is tiny: i rather get out a magnifying glass than having to search for the PDF documenting this. This was already confusing for imx8mq sd/emmc boot switch: https://source.mnt.re/reform/reform-handbook/-/issues/2

@mntmn But is that not a good thing? Or is it tricky to have the switches all mounted the same way?

@mntmn Considerations about the name: I think it sounds cool but it is also very similar to RCORE. I remember people in IRC and the forum who confused imx8mq and imx8m+ which also only differ by a single letter. I also know many people (me included) who like to rant about how similar architecture names like amd64 and arm64 are. At a glance, they look the same and that has real-world effects all the time when somebody reads your bug report and misses that you wrote the other thing.

@mntmn @danji QUASAR is also a banger name and starts with QUA like qualcomm. Though honestly, the "qual" in qualcomm just evokes negative feelings for me. XD On the other hand, qualcomm calls the QCS6490 "dragonwing" -- maybe more banger names can be found in the direction of dragons?

@mntmn Well, it "works". It's just not "done". The prototype can be seen in the photos. There is a 3D printed stem which you stick through a hole in the keyboard PCB. The trackpoint sensor can be found in different varieties online. Some of the keycaps needed to be modified of course. Remaining problem is the fragility of the stem which is made of PLA. A thinner stem would be better and would avoid having to file some material away at the corner of the switches as well.

@mntmn Obligatory meme. Does this mean that there is a problem with signal integrity in motherboard 3.0 which would require another motherboard revision to fix?

@cas @mntmn Is that a MNT Desktop Reform side panel that you are using to turn on the motherboard while us folks out here are still making do with our own home-grown solutions to send p1 to the board? :D

@mntmn @rwa You can now "sudo apt install box64" and then run "/usr/share/doc/box64/examples/install_steam.sh" Maybe read that script before you run it. On rk3588, maybe install the box64-rk3588 package instead (binary is optimized for rk3588).Unfortunately, the games I tried fail with "Error: could not create the render window. Please make sure your graphics hardware/driver supports OpenGL 3.2 or newer". Running steam with MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=3.2 just results in a black window...

@mntmn Hrm... 🤔 Now a module for desktop reform with mechanical and electrical facilities to mount a PCI-E GPU and connect that module above or below the desktop reform with the motherboard... But I'm sure you already am thinking about this. :)

@ewolff @mntmn Whether the MNT Pocket Reform fits might or might not've played a role when I got myself this jacket. 🧥

@mntmn @sad_electronics Very nice! Are there plans to sell this on shop.mntre.com or on tindie or some other place in the future?

@rwa @mntmn Instead of classic Reform motherboard 4.0, how about putting the Reform Next internals into classic Reform? Given some ABS/PET scaffolding this should work volume-wise and you get all the improvements of the Next for the classic. You would even get some things that the Reform Next doesn't have like a full-sized eithernet port or full-sized sd-card slot if you mod the left port board a bit. Or maybe more USB 2-sized ports on the right? And much more volume for hacks!

@mntmn I could bring the handheld scientific usb keyboard bluetooth adapter to Hamburg to see if it can be run with it? When you say it can be used via bluetooth you didn't mean the v2 design has bluetooth already *integrated* with antenna and everything, right?

@vimja I can confirm the display issues but was hoping that this was only my unit. It's on my TODO list to bisect the kernel for LS1028A to figure out which commit broke it @mntmn
