@mntmn @theawesomerandomness I do really like the 7" tablet form factor, though for me it'd definitely be more of a "throw it in my bag" kind of device than a pocketable one. Feels like that's just big enough to have a reason to use it over my phone even if I also have my phone with me

@mntmn @GyrosGeier I've found that high precision scrolling is very helpful for me as someone with RSI in my right arm. It seems to help me scroll reliably with minimal pressure on the touchpad, which aggravates my RSI a lot less

@mntmn I'm glad you did too! If any computer can be considered solarpunk, I think it's that one. Made to be remade :)

@mntmn From what I've heard the US government isn't providing key information like "where do we send payment to?" and the exact amounts they need to charge for different products. My gut feeling is that UPS is charging extra to cover the risk of getting it wrong on some packages + the cost of figuring out how to deal with the new systemThat's my feeling because other postal carriers have halted shipments altogether, which makes me think they decided the risk is too great to continue shipping

@mntmn DHL also suspended shipping to the US though, aren't they also a courier?

@mntmn From a user's perspective, I suspect it's just that it feels/looks futuristicFrom an engineering perspective I wonder if it's sort of practice/iterative development for a future foldable iPhone. Folding it over doubles the thickness, so you need to make the device thinner in general for it to be a "normal" thickness while closed. Maybe they started work on one, decided the display tech wasn't mature enough for them yet, and made this as a middle ground

@mntmn Some Android phones (Samsung, Motorola) have vendor-specific versions of this that are actually quite decent, but the version in stock Android is pretty jank for now yeahMost of the mobile Linux DEs can also do this with varying degrees of polish. I think only Lomiri really makes the external display feel like a desktop, but some of the others (Phosh, Plasma Mobile) let you turn on a docked mode that disables auto-maximization and such

@mntmn Oh! I had noticed that power cycling with the standby switch often resolved my keyboard crashes for a while, I suppose this is probably why. Will have to give this a try later :)

@mntmn I've had toggle switches fail (and fix themselves) like this in the past. In particular the power switch for my old GBA was very flaky after presumably having built up oxidation inside over the years; toggling it back and forth with a bit more pressure than I'd usually use did the trick. It feels weird but if it works... :)

@mntmn I wish I could get the bare RCORE v2 board without the rk3588 module this way, since I already have one of those 😅

@mntmn Similar to the other folks here using Nix, I use Guix for this. (Which does have its frustrations on aarch64 since it's a less common platform, but it's gotten a bit better over time.) For the time being I'm doing this on the Reform Debian images, not running it as its own distro (both Nix and Guix can do this!)It's nice to have all my machines have effectively the same desktop configuration though :)

@mntmn I've been super happy with how much the XMPP ecosystem has grown over the last several years. Been a little bit since I've looked but the one thing that still wasn't quite there last I checked was a really solid iOS client (and I have a few friends/family on iOS). Gajim is great on desktop and Conversations (and/or Cheogram) is great on AndroidSnikket might have improved the iOS situation though, I think that was one of their goals!

@mntmn @johl Aww I wish I spoke German so I could listen to that! That's one of my favorite parts of using the Pocket Reform, the occasional reaction I get from people nearby like "what is THAT?!"

@mntmn YessssssI've only used Gnome Mobile so far on my Librem 5 but it's very nice and I expect it'll feel especially nice on a faster tablet like this!I'm hoping either Gnome Mobile or Plasma Mobile gets to the point where they can turn into their desktop counterparts when docked. The only Linux desktop I'm aware of at the moment that does this is Lomiri, but the desktop mode of that still needs a little polish I think
