Right, last time I cursed at the Wireguard mode of Cilium because even though it *should* just work, I have no working communication via it.

I wanted to re-install k3s and now the install script keeps throwing this error:iptables-restore: COMMIT expected at line 10I don't know if this has to do with any of the changes that I had last or if the k3s script is just broken atm.(Yet another reason why piping to sh is a terrible way to install something, I have no idea if the script I ran 3 weeks ago is the same as I run today. Should have saved it :neobot_facepalm: )

I think it broke because I installed and manually pre-loaded iptables stuff for Cilium to work, where previously k3s would use its bundled stuff.--prefer-bundled-bin doesn't seem to fix it though.Ugh, what a brittle puzzle. Never trust a script you didn't break yourself...

So do I now just edit the install script to remove the affected lines? I checked them and they seem to only be there to delete old iptables rules, which I have none of.Probably the most sane idea.

Worked.I am finally back to where I was before:A cluster with fucked up networking, but this time without Cilium Wireguard.I don't like having the CNI manage that, so I'll do that layer outside of Kubernetes. Now I can finally debug what I've been wanting to debug an hour ago.

Aaaaah, Cilium??? WHY???Whenever I tried to uninstall it the last couple of times it would have a "cilium-secrets" namespace that is stuck in terminating.Except I don't know why. There's nothing in there as far as I can tell...There also aren't any custom finalizers on the namespace.

Now k3s isn't starting up again...Maybe this is a sign to finally dump k3s and go one level deeper. It's not like I was still using much of k3s anyways, I'm disabling basically all of the built-in modules...Let's check out kubeadm, maybe that's already good enough.

I often seen people have the reaction of "This is too hard, let me use more abstraction", while my first response is always "This is shit, let me do more myself".Talos could probably solve some of my problems. But I am certain it would create way more new ones.

@gyptazy They are not, at some point I apparently managed to SSH into the same node twice. That explains a lot. :neobot_facepalm: It seems like I should take a break :D

Dropped my iPhone from a balcony on the 1st floor today...It was in a slim, plastic case and had a screen protector...It landed on the corner of the device and survived. :neobot_baa_dizzy:

@_elena Sure it might seem antithetical and I think that if some place wants to link to the video, it should not link to the YouTube version, but it definitely also needs to be there so that people can find out about it.

@_elena There is a tradeoff in everything. Having something decentralized is cool, but Signal just checks sooo many other boxes, that I can accept that they are hosted on AWS in the US. Their encryption is top notch, so it doesn't really matter where the data is stored (and in the case of signal, they don't even store anything for long). Plus the app is pretty easy to use for everyone and also used by enough people to make it a viable option for the masses. Matrix on the other hand is decentralized but has so many other pitfalls and issues that I can't recommend it to anyone that's non-technical.

I finally published the redesign of my website!I wanted to wait to also have a new blog post ready, but it felt more important right now to just get the design of out the door. After many years of using pre-made templates that all looked very plain, I've finally made my own thing from scratch. This means that for the first time I actually know about all of the little things that make up the website and I could give it personality.It:- has Color- uses no Javascript- has a little hidden animation- is maintainable- maintains compatibility with all old links- is just plain more funI'm really happy with it and already have plans on what to add to it in the future :neobot_floof_happy: So feel free to check it out:https://jsteuernagel.de
