"I was told Rockchip no longer considers RK3588 to be an “open source” chip. In practice, that means Rockchip no longer contributes RK3588 code to open-source projects and they also decided not to sell RK3588 directly to SBC vendors." https://www.cnx-software.com/2024/12/21/rockchip-rk3588-mainline-linux-support-current-status-and-future-work-for-2025/This, paired with Joshua Riek stepping away from ubuntu-rockchip, doesn't bode well for RK3588's SBC futures.Maybe why Radxa is going with a different vendor for their next flagship board, the Orion 6?

@mntmn heh... I have a 3D printed thing, and it just has a ton of unlabeled cards in it. At least they're not in a ziploc bag anymore!

Oh we're gonna do this again YouTube?Self-hosting your own media content on a Raspberry Pi is not "dangerous or harmful".I'm appealing of course; they're saying installing LibreElec on a Raspberry Pi circumvents copyright?!

Video used to be here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hFas54xFtgWe'll see if I can get it reinstated.Last time they pulled down a video about self-hosted media libraries, it was put back up a few hours later after appeal.

Raspberry Pi just announced the Pi 500+It has a quad-core CPU, 16 GB of RAM, 256 GB SSD (built-in NVMe), and an RGB backlit mechanical keyboard (Gateron KS-33 blue switches).Cost: $200.First thing I did was yank the SSD out and replace it with an M.2 to OCuLink adapter, so I could game and local-LLM on the thing, using an AMD RX 7900 XT with 20 GB of GDDR6 VRAM.

...Then I swapped out the keycaps for two different sets, to see how that experience goes. The keys are ‘low profile’, and the keyboard feels great (though it makes clickety-clack sounds at around 60 dBA from a foot away). If you crave more information, I have you covered:Full video with all the details: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dv3RRAx7G6EAnd if you enjoy text more than video, I have a couple blog posts:Keyboard experience: https://www.jeffgeerling.com/blog/2025/testing-raspberry-pi-500s-new-mechanical-keyboardeGPU testing: https://www.jeffgeerling.com/blog/2025/full-egpu-acceleration-on-pi-500-15-line-patch
