The obvious choice for ActivityPub’s birthday would be the 23rd of January 2018 - the day it was annointed as a W3C recommendation. That doesn’t seem quite right though - its not as if the spec came into existence in any sense upon that date. In fact, Mastodon implemented it before thne. There are several possible dates you might pick, but for me it will always be September 5th 2014 - when I committed the first sketch of a specification I called ActivityPump and pushed it to GithubIt wouldn’t be until November that I actually submitted (a revised and enhanced version of) that draft to the working group, but even then I had the very nucleus of the specification written down.Happy 10th birthday, ActivityPub. 🍰

@mntmn which is ironic, because a lot of stuff is made here, and yet making new stuff can be very hard!

@mntmn @gsuberland limited vs full range isn’t signalled by the HDMI transceiverI don’t remember the full rules but I think its something like: sRGB colourspace is identified by which EDID table the timing information came from. If it came from the CEA table, then sRGB modes are limited range (*unless the monitor is configured for “full range” mode which technically violates the HDMI specification); if it came from the “normal” EDID tables, then sRGB modes are full range. If you can, use YCbCr 4:4:4 mode and avoid this nonsense.

@jeder @gsuberland @mntmn you’re thinking YCbCr 4:2:2 (which does chroma subsampling). YCbCr 4:4:4 does no chroma subsampling and should be approximately lossless

@mntmn @whitequark dishwasher powder is readily available and cheap though.. Pour a small sprinkle on the door for pre-wash.I'd always load it up with salt, salt is cheaper than detergent and it'll only use it at the rate needed to soften the water

@gsuberland @mcc @glennseto my perhapscontroversial opinion is that modern Gnome does a very good job of this.
