I have to implement Direct Messages in Loops, and it reminded me of Sup.Pixelfed and Loops could be the first fediverse E2EE software duo.Then we ship Sup and give it to the rest of the fediverse, including compatibility with ongoing E2EE efforts.2026 will be a huge year for the fediverse 🚀

I hope that the Pixelfed community understands why I've been so focused on Loops and that I will be focusing on Pixelfed once the Loops app is shipped to the App Store.Loops is perfectly positioned with the TikTok turmoil and Oracle sale, to bring thousands and potentially millions of new people to the fediverse.I know it feels like I abandoned Pixelfed, but I spent the past 7 years working on it almost daily, please understand that I do deserve a breakAnd my break is building Loops, 4 u 🚀

Loops was originally a Pixelfed feature that was launched back in 2019, and it was inspired by Vine.In 2020 it was removed, and remained in the back of my mind until 2023, when I started considering building a separate service.Fast forward to 2025, we launched Pixelfed to the App and Play Stores and shipped quite a few new features, but the later part of 2025 I spent on Loops.Now it's fully open source, server and mobile apps, and federates!But that doesn't mean Pixelfed is dead 😉

Instagram and TikTok are among the most toxic social media platforms when it comes to abuse and hate speech.I am aware of this, and while I have a lot of privilege, it also means that I don't experience very much abuse, so I will need more advice and insight from our community.I think we should organize a town hall where we can discuss ways to improve platform safety and anti-abuse tooling across Pixelfed and Loops with actionable milestones.Let me know if you're interested.
