@avanaut The most amazing thing to me is that the model doesn't look like a model (in terms of details and surfaces). Is that how you've built it or are you adding tiny details in post?If I may be so curious: do you photograph the model on the same day as your environment? (I'm assuming yes, because the lighting just matches perfectly)

Go home, KeePassXC, you're drunk!(just kidding @keepassxc you're awesome! But something was slightly off after a MacOS reboot. I sometimes have double icons during automatic updates of various apps, but I've never seen three icons before)

A show we've recently worked on has won the German film awards for best VFX! We can't show our best work yet (a bunch of our shots will only be in an accompanying series) and we're not the only post house that worked on it. But here's our reel for "Hagen".The show is a version of a Nordic/Germanic myth. But this time it's not about the dragon-slaying hero but about the "adult in the room" who tries to keep the kingdom safe and sane.https://vimeo.com/1070326500#VFX #HagenVonTronje #Nibelungen

I just watched a youtube video by Taylor Lorenz and some dude about how "nobody's posting anymore" and it was cringeworthy. It's how about social media is just professional influencers, "hyper-curated", with slop and ads ruining things. Nobody's doing casual posting anymore. It's almost comical how they suggest newsletters and substack as alternatives (or "do your own blog") when the #Fediverse is right here. People doing the casual stuff, the healthier kind of posting. 1/x

The modern Magnificent Seven movie starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt is still on Amazon Prime for a few days -- at least here in Germany. We did some VFX for it. Back in the day I was still doing comp and comp supervision. My shot that I'm most proud of is the knife action on the straw dummy. Our company's showreel of that movie starts with a breakdown of it:https://vimeo.com/188261245#VFX #compositing #bighugfx

25 minutes in they mention Bluesky briefly, but then totally dismiss it (Lorenz is even here on Mastodon!). Watching them talk is so strange. Like they are actively ignoring the elephant (pun intended) in the room. And instead they mention specialised photo-sharing apps if you want to reach a smaller group. It's just vapid blah blah in that video. If you want to watch it (searched for Lorenz's name here and figured many people will probably say "hell no")https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQ274ieBfcE

I don't remember exactly but I think the tracking was part Nuke 3D tracking plus additional stabilisation using a planar tracker for each bag.All the cuts were from photos we took using a blue plastic bag and I blew some bits of hamster hay into the air for additional elements.I remember that I hand-animated a corner pin for every cut to make it stick perfectly to the deforming sacks. Frame by frame, hundreds of them.#vfxlife #compositing

The whole thing was shot on real film using anamorphic lenses. The plate was jittery if you took a closer look and of course we didn't have proper lens grids for 3d matchmoving. We also added rifle smoke to some shots.I remember a client call where the studio's VFX sup said this memorable phrase: "There's a lot of money in the frame {draws $$$ dollar signs around Chris Pratt in cinesync} so we don't want to cover him up with smoke!"

@Blender I‘m not sure I understand what’s going on in that splash screen. Is there a flaming arrow? But where’s the archer?

@apps I'm using #phanpy and wasn't aware that it also supports those expressions. It shows a button below your post ("math expression found") and when I click it the markdown gets rendered.

@NiwlCraft Cool, thanks for sharing, this is both funny and interesting. I didn't know my place of residence is unique in having a "christmas child". It's colored the same as the baby Jesus countries, but I never regarded the "Christkind" as Jesus. Originally it might have been, but since baby Jesus is obviously too tiny to haul all those presents, I think I'm not the only one who always saw it as a young, possibly female, angel.

I'm rewatching Firefly (on Disney+).The CGI is obviously lacking modern lighting techniques and often feels soft, the compositing has clipped highlights due to the lack of a modern linear and color-managed workflow. But that's to be expected. The show came out more than 20 years ago! What matters more is the story and its vibe. I remember it as one of the most beloved sci-fi shows back then, in good company with #Babylon5 and #Farscape despite it lasting only 1 season.#Firefly #SciFiTV

@_slowly @keepassxc I was also confused that I needed to pick my bank first. But I just scanned the QR code I got for my bank in my Wero app (my bank had the Wero logo above the QR code, Sparkasse shows its own app logo, so it might be a Sparkasse issue because they implement Wero in their own app?)

@keepassxc Just out of curiosity: what do you see as the recipient of a #wero donation? My name and IBAN?

@keepassxc thanks! That makes sense though, as it's always tied to a bank account and a normal SEPA transaction would also reveal your name.
