blown away by the amount of work going on in #postmarketOS (as i am every time we release a new monthly update post), it's so humbling to see so many people with so many different interests and areas of expertise coming together to build something awesomewhat are you waiting for? grab a device and get hacking :Dhttps://postmarketos.org/contribute/https://social.treehouse.systems/@postmarketOS/114615433906900030

#postmarketOS is gonna be so awesome once you can actually factory reset your device. not for that logic alone but because of what it implies about the underlying system designi've done this rant before but just consider how much more solid your system will be when all your changes are explicitly handled on top of the base system with robust mechanisms for testing system changes, being able to revert them back (at the bootloader level).if we do this right, it should mean that once you install postmarketos on your Android device you should never have to interact with fastboot again, you'll always have a working system to jump back to with A/B updates (unless you really mess up).The user benefits are awesome too (see Lennarts thread), but as a distro that encourages tinkerers im way more interested in all the ways we can make development easier whether you're working on the kernel, initramfs, middleware or UI and THIS is how we do itFrom: @pid_einshttps://mastodon.social/@pid_eins/114635234216495259

Last year we got the epic systemd/GNOME Linux stack for Berlin GUADEC, finally over 1 year later we get this amazing follow-up shirt at Boiling the Ocean 7Everything is going to be OK :blobfox3c: https://social.treehouse.systems/@cas/112818226715031990#LinuxMobile #systemd #Linux #GNOME

@mntmn additional pics ^^absolutely incredible that we managed to get Linux up and running on the (hand placed!!) first revision PCB in <1 day> @cas did most of the work and tina was barking hmm i think it was mostly the other way around tbh

@matt @mntmn we are booting with U-Boot. It's (roughly) ROM -> xbl_sec (el3) -> sbl1 (uart & hw init) -> tz -> hypervisor (gunyah) -> u-booteverything before u-boot is proprietary, we are hoping to be able to optionally disable hyp and get EL2 for KVM but work will be needed (probably from the community) to get the DSPs to work in that case so we have audio

@matt @mntmn power consumption is a big factor, the other is that Lucie has somehow managed to pin things out so that it should be possible to drop in an sm8550 (snapdragon 8 gen2) or sm8750 (snapdragon 8 elite) soc into the same SoM (or at least with minimal changes), these have vastly better specs (8550 is like 1.4x faster in CPU alone, GPU diff is even bigger i think)

excited to finally announce to the world what we've been planning in Berlin these last few months. I hope the core tenets of Modal is something that many people can get behind :3#Modal #LinuxMobilehttps://mastodon.design/@modal/115667365166451345

@mntmn @rick you can stick systemd.unit=multi-user.target in your kernel cmdline in that case (yay obscure barely-documented systemd debugging stuff), then it'll start before triggering graphical.targethttps://freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd/Debugging
