@futurebirdSeems to me they've barely even gone through the motions of making a case for this violence. Of course it's wrong. The whole thing is illegal. And yet we can't seem to make that matter enough to stop it.

The Urusei Yatsura TV series (1981-1986) had some amazing music.

@doctormo @davidrevoy Oh, does Inkscape fully support importing AI files now? I haven't needed to do that in a long time. But circa 2012 when I did, I had to do some hacking to get the drawing layers to translate into Inkscape's conventions. Not sure I have any AI files around to test with now. I accepted submitted art in AI, but converted to SVG for check-in. But I don't actually own a copy of Illustrator.

I'm seeing a lot of concern over heavy news today and boosts. So I want to call your attention to a useful, but perhaps little-known Mastodon feature:If you want to follow an account on Mastodon, but you don't like the posts that they boost from others, you can hide these from an option on their profile (in the web UI) without having to unfollow them. There are many strongly held opinions on the "correct" use of CW and what ought to be boosted, so this can be a useful way to cope.

@Rozzychan Those things really trigger my PDA. Even if they're essentially what I want to say, I *HAVE* to find a different way to say it! :welp:

Okay. Now we're talking. This is a very viable threat.US bases around the world exist only by treaties -- the sort of treaties that the Trump regime flouts. Those become void if we don't do our part. And who's to say that US bases in Europe would not be better run by the EU itself? The US Right keeps complaining about Europe leaning on us for defense -- maybe the right thing is that the EU just takes over control of their own defense? I think they are fully capable of doing that.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UgnMd6HtVI

@degroof Very useful! I see silicone/silicon errors a LOT.E.g. a "silicone-based life form" and a "silicon-based life form" would be very different things. You also really don't want to try to seal your bathtub with silicon. Or make chips with silicone wafers...

When I say this, people often object that it's somehow impossible, but DHS and ICE aren't really very old, and we did just fine before they existed. I very clearly remember the frisson of horror I got just from the fascist-sounding name "Department of Homeland Security". I had a strong sense that that wasn't going to go well -- and I feel like it really has not.Yes, most of the same functions existed, but they were managed very differently. There were reasons to complain about INS to be sure, but they were conceptually about helping people to immigrate, not protecting the USA from scary immigrants. I think that kind of psychological framing matters. From "AntiSocialStudies" on YT, "When and why was ICE created?"https://www.youtube.com/shorts/7j1LdDhRgBk

Just compare the names:"Immigration and Naturalization Service"What does that sound like it does? It's a service to help people immigrate and naturalize (become citizens)."Immigration and Customs Enforcement"Now that sounds like it's about preventing contraband from entering the country -- and immigrants are just human contraband. It's very dehumanizing and hostile. It's a big shift in attitude. And one very contrary to the notions of American identity I grew up with. This nonsense did not start with Trump -- don't let "normal Republicans" try to gaslight you about that. This has been a long game.

@rperezrosario Multimedia distro.XFCE Defeault Desktop(Therefore minimal migration from Ubuntu Studio)No Snap packages.(Why I left Ubuntu Studio)Strong preference for APT/DEB packaging.Other benefits (not why I chose it, but nice):Choice of SystemD or Sys 5 Init startup.MX Tools (for system administration).Disadvantages:Not much of a maintenance team -- as far as I know, AV Linux is basically a lone maintainer. I have considered that maybe I should contribute, but honestly haven't done much to that effect.

@wdlindsy No. I believe her.But I only read your quote, which is just a bald statement, without the chain of evidence that supports it. I presume that exists, which is the point of my evidentiary clause.I would expect to see this argued from video angles in court, perhaps with diagrams. I'm not really sure. The defense will surely argue that the arm position was accidental and irrelevant in the "heat of the moment", while the prosecution will no doubt say that he was trying falsify his position, "in cold blood".But IMHO, it's pretty damning. 😬

@jsitYeah. I think my ideal reform to copyright would make the term 20 years, so the first episode would've gone PD in 2007? That seems fair to me. I think I wrote up my ideal version of copyright at some point. I'd have to look up what I wrote -- it was a little more complicated than that. 🤔
