@eff @cmcsherr @washingtonpost This is why I don’t use Gmail.Judging by how bad the data detecting algorithms are at identifying flight numbers and phone numbers, not only are you being spied on, but all the data they are collating about you is most likely inaccurate!Sometimes a string of numbers is just a string of numbers.

@eff this mainly for profit, although some Manufacturers claim to do it so the can monitor the functionality of the vehicle.They need this extra revenue stream to subsidise the electronics for their driver assistance systems so they can get their 5-star ENCAP ratings,

@organicmaps I care, but I also understand that sometimes compromises need to be made for the benefit of the project.Self-Hosting a versioning and distribution platform can become very expensive, very quickly, especially when your project is popular.Open Source projects have limited funds and I am grateful for what the developers do provide us.

@eff my local Lemmy instance requires a photo of self with username written in cardboard either;- drinking a beer at a pub- driving a car (taken by the passenger, of course, not a selfie).Even this is discriminatory to non-drinkers and non-drivers, and those of us who don’t have any friends to take the photo.

@eff @arstechnica They also acted stupidly.If they had have just asked Apple for the user data, they could have made ICEBlock a source of tracking data for people who didn’t want to be tracked by ICE.

@eff Technology is also being used by ICE against citizens.Be careful where technology comes from . They could be playing both sides.A database of people who want to avoid ICE would be invaluable to this terrorist organisation.
