@peter I am fairly new at this, but if you want to explore the idea, the easiest way, I think, is to install Yunohost on an old unused computer.Through #yunohost you can easily install Mastodon and/or Pixelfed.If you want to read about this, @_elena has written (enthousiasticaly) about her experience in #selfhosting : https://news.elenarossini.com/

@_elena I don't quite get the domain name market.1 euro for a domain at Ionos. I pay something like 20$ for mine. I don't get how and why the price changes over time. Etc.I checked Ionos, in Québec, I see 1$ per year, which is even cheaper than 1 euro...Anyway, for a few bucks per year, why would we not have a domain name?

@_elena The rebelle alliance part does resonate with me.J'ai constaté à diverses occasions que agir, créer, faire soi-même, est un antidote à l'impression de subir les choses.Une de mes filles était très anxieuse face aux changements climatiques, nous avons appris à cultiver un jardin et elle a maintenant davantage l'impression de pouvoir, modestement, agir.Le fédivers, c'est ma façon de faire quelque chose face à l'oligarchie.
