If you're #new to #mastodon, fresh off the (sinking) boat from #twitter, welcome. I came here from Twitter after my account was suspended for... no reason given / none I can think of, other than being critical of #elon, his coddling of extremists, and his bad management.After I set up a mastodon account, I visited https://elk.zone , as @elk gives the interface a Twitter-like makeover. Why #mastodon? Even when it's maddening that so many who I miss and wish well of are still posting content on #twitter, in a way that helps #elon to harm the entire internet?I'm here because I believe what we do matters. So does where we choose to do it.I don't need to monetize content, but what I create is mine. It's meaningful to me, and useful to others. #mastodon respects that, helps me create it, and delivers it to you, without laying claim to it.#mastodon is worthy of my words.

@dansup Hey, Daniel... if it's not already a bit of a de facto standard, you may want to encourage the use of something akin to the whole #introduction tag on Mastodon.Being able to physically see the diversity of people introducing themselves makes a real difference in encouraging community, the formation of sub-communities, and the ability to find new friends and people to follow.

The old Mastodon is old. Literally. Demographically. A Casablanca-eque interzone for digerati types who failed to make the world a better place.But into that is flowing fresh refugees, coming for safety & acceptance.If I were religious, I'd think it my duty to make them feel welcome, regardless of beliefs. In my case, I simply feel it the right thing to do.My advice, if you ever suspect you're stuck in a bubble:Go to #introduction . Frequently.Meet your young(er), emergent community.
