My laptop is from 2013. It was OK back then. It's now running #Debian and works fine. It got an SSD a few years ago and a new battery last year.It does all the things I need a laptop for and would be good enough for 99% of consumers. Most people could greatly benefit in many ways from #Linux. What's a good way to get people to try Linux? Genuine question.https://www.tomshardware.com/software/operating-systems/linux-or-landfill-end-of-windows-10-leaves-pc-charities-with-tough-choice

They have never been ultra. The heart rate monitor was removed to sell you a watch. The 3.5 mm was removed to sell you earbuds. The SD card slot was removed to upsell you on storage. The easily replaceable battery was removed to sell you a whole new phone.A fucking Galaxy Note 4 from 2014 has all of this, an infrared port and more. @verge https://mastodon.social/@verge/113929263574829077

@Tutanota I was already using your service to send the gayest emails this planet has ever seen.I knew you couldn't stop me. Now I know you wouldn't even stop me if you could.I'll find a way to make the emails even more gay.

Before anyone says that their phone needs to be waterproof and is therefore okay with a non-removable battery. You don't have to choose. We already had both over a decade ago. There are several ways to do it. Look at Xperia Active from 2011 or Galaxy S5 from 2014. It's not like this knowledge is lost.

The fact that government and military communication would be exempt is, in itself, an admission that there's no such thing as a backdoor only for the good guys. If that wasn't bad enough, any access that allows you to search for CSAM in communications can also be used for surveillance.Creating a system with immense surveillance capabilities without intending to use it for surveillance is, at best, naive. Even if you don't plan on using it, you can't know who's going to be in power in the future.#chatcontrol #privacy@EUCommission @ranx
