@eff NOOOOOOOOO!!!! ENCRYPTING YOUR HARDDRIVE IS A MASSIVE STEP THAT IS THE OPPOSITE OF HELPFUL IN MOST HOME USER'S THREAT MODELS!It is far more likely for a home user to lose access to their account or have their computer fail than it is for them to have a drive stolen. Home users also tend to lack backups and don't have a secondary means of resetting their passwords.A home user SHOULD NOT be encrypting their hard drives without having someone discuss the implications of doing so, and should ultimately do so as part of a much larger plan regarding their system, not as a standalone activity.Additionally, the default tooling has issues which are unlikely to appeal to a user looking to secure their own data - such as their keys being attached to their microsoft account.
