To recap: this is simply the best story about VR I have
ever read and I don't really think anything else that has
been written since Phillip K. Dick did a lot of drugs even
comes close to it. It's Australian too.
I'll boost that by adding: I don't even read science fiction
anymore and this book was thrust upon me by friends.
The details:
Permutation City
by Greg Egan
ISBN 185 798 2185
This is the paperback version, there is a really nice hardcover version
around too that is a delight to read.
Greg Egan has two other fiction books:
Quarantine
- (earlier work) about Quantum Physics and reality and is also a work of genius
(just tear the 2 page epilogue out, it looks like an editorial mistake)
Axiomatic
- (most recent) collection of short stories of Egan's. Just saw this in
a bookshop today. From the blerb and the story titles this one looks
potentially massive.
