So I was at a presentation today about the 3D marketplace for the next
year. The presenter was a market analyst with one of the multimedia
magazines and his own firm. Couple points of interest for those of us
artists working in VR. One was that Virtual Worlds are the killer Apps
of the new 3D PCs and that by next year 3D PCs doing 500,000 textured
Polys per second will be realistic. Not commonplace, but available
affordably. This is of interest to the marketing and proffesional market, but
it is also interesting for us. What can we, as artists, do to "publish" our
art and make it available to the public. Not only are we dealing with a
new medium, but also a new way to distribute our work. At the moment,
VRML is the defacto standard, but that will change over the next year or
two ;). Without restricting ourselves to VRML, does anyone have opinions
on this stuff?
