It had been about two years since I had gotten a haircut. The last one was the day before my wedding. When I had the long hair, I thought it looked pretty good. Reflecting on the picture now makes me think otherwise. Anyways, it was kind of a pain and I was getting tired of it.

I got divorced on December 26th. I thought it was a good excuse to cut my hair, kind of an "end of an era" thing. I went to this place called "Curl Up and Dye" in Chicago. The guy there was pretty cool. We talked about San Francisco. He gave me a haircut that was pretty long. It required the use of gel. I hate putting stuff in my hair. It's because I used to have a mohawk and it would take me 45 minutes to do my hair in the morning. So now, I don't like to spend more than 5 minutes.

the haircut I gotten in december had grown out. I don't like to get haircuts too often, every 4-6 months or so. I usually wait until I look really bad. My hair is so Robert Smithy in this picture, because I had been wearing a baseball cap all day. That's my version of hat-head (my hair is pretty oily). I liked that look, but it was too hard to get everyday without a lot of time, which as I said, I don't like to spend. So, I decided to get a haircut.

I asked for some recommendations on the net. I was looking for a place where I could get a "non-standard" haircut. I didn't want to come out with some college-republican type of cut. Rudy's was the place most recommended, so I headed there. I had to wait for a while. I should have noticed that although everyone who worked there had really wild hairdoos, all the people getting their haircut were getting either buzz-cuts or flat-tops. The fact that it was a barber shop, not a salon, should have also tipped me off. I got in the chair. The woman asked me how I wanted my hair. I said long on top, short on the sides and longer in back. She said, "you mean like a bi-level?" I thought she meant, really long on top and buzzed on the sides. I said "sure!" She said, "how long on top?" I said, "I like my bangs to be about mid-eye." She grabbed my bangs pulled them down (they went to my chin) and snip snip, they were gone! I should have stopped it then, but I didn't. Soon, there was a huge pile of hair on the floor. She left it long in back. I had super short hair everywhere else. I looked like a total hick. I told her to get rid of the hair in back also. And now here I am. Shorter hair than I've had in 4 years. I went home. The goatee looked stupid. I figured, "what the hell?" and dumped that too. I figure it will take me about 6 months to grow in the hair, but for the meantime, I'll look 16 years old. I can't wait until I carded next time.

Did I say I like to get a haircut every 4-6 months? Well, I guess three months is a pretty long time when your hair grows as fast as mine. I was tired of looking like a young republican, so I had Young Dave (I call him Young Dave, because I am in a band with him and another David and Young Dave is only 19, it avoids confusion and adds friendly insult at the same time) shave the sides and back of my head (which is what I was originally looking for from Rudy's) and Voila! Oh yeah, I was getting carded ALL OF THE TIME, so I grew my Van Dyke back as well.
