Shadows
Michael Sander
There it is Off in the shadows Just beyond where it would be visible to all It is a figure of blackness Maybe a shadow itself There in the dark does it wait for me To catch me when I least expect it I know the creature wants me Until now I have avoided it whenever possible Staying where the lights are and never straying into the night But how long can this go on I cannot hide forever And one day I will be taken Like it or not So why not throw myself at it Let whatever it maybe have its prize Why not In an instant I jump up from where I sit and walk into the darkness The beast embraces me Devouring my very being The pain is unbearable as death is upon me But I have the satisfaction of knowing I choose this Not it
