For 2 months I've been living with Melisse and enjoying
being a kept man, with no rent to pay and no utility bills in my name.
But the gravy train is over, because our landlord Dave Freeburn is putting
our unit on the market. He is selling the unit now despite his assurances
when I moved in that he wouldn't do so for at least a year. I guess
it's more secure to be on a lease then to be on the boyfriend dole.
So Melisse and I started looking for places to live,
and found slim pickings in the way of places with a washer/ dryer.
Houses were renting too dearly, and so our search took us north to Redwood
Shores. We settled on Harborside
apartments, where we snagged a top-floor 1br unit with a den, high ceilings,
and an available 2nd garage. We move in on Apr 11.
Melisse had been sitting on plastic-covered flood-damaged
seats in her Miata as we wait for the replacement seats. As
we moved toward closing the Miata's sale, I nailed down a deal on a new
Firebird -- and a CD
recorder to cut tunes for it. Our
'bird is an automatic V6 that gets you to 60 mph in 7.1 sec.
It has the removable glass roof(s) I require, but also the automatic transmission
and nominal back seat that make it more family-friendly. AutoVantage
on the web found me a Pontiac dealer offering my package for $300 over
invoice, at 0.9% financing. So the net result has been to use the
Corvette's equity to pay off Melisse's 9% student loan and replace it with
a 0.9% loan.
Jacqueline and Pat flew in for the weekend to help
Melisse with wedding plans -- i.e., to shop. The girls looked at
dresses, and settled on the Stanford Faculty Club for the reception.
Unfortunately, Pat left with the cold that I've spent the last 10 days
or so trying to shake after inheriting it from Melisse. Its many
benefits include a cough, stuffy sinus headache, and occasional earaches.
I've been playing tennis through this and a tweaky serving shoulder that
I think is caused by how I sleep on my side. Basically, I'm a wreck and
I don't even turn 33 for two more weeks.
