Issue number three is online, on time, and looking sharp.

The content in this edition surpasses anything we have published before; it sets a new standard for the magazine and I’d like to think it’s only the beginning of what we will accomplish in months to come.

I’m interested in starting a new sub-section of Critique dedicated to impartially chronicling electronic and traditional publishers in a tabular format. That’s a fancy way of saying I envision of comprehensive list of magazine, electronic, subsidy, POD, traditional, and genre publishers, as well as a list of writing/media-related resources, screenplay and movie sites, and more. So as you are surfing the web in the next few weeks, take a moment to note the addresses and types of publishing sites you visit. Your list will be included in the next issue of Critique.

The staff manual was updated on December 12, and includes minor changes and more specifics regarding style.

Thanks for your hard work and ideas. I look forward to reading more excellent reviews. For the January issue, please advise me of your choices by January 1.

Until then, happy holidays.

Kate

Dates to Remember:

January 1: Review request due

Issue #2 is now available. Though we were unable to complete the galley process for this number, any changes, corrections, or ideas for improvement can be sent to me and will receive the same consideration.

Several diligent staff members have had success with advance copies. Something to keep in mind: before you purchase a book, take a look at the publisher's website. Almost all of the companies with which I have been working have a form you may use to request review copies. If the company has no site or if you wish to work in hard copy, I can provide you a letter on "official" stationary. If you have any problems or questions, or if the company needs to hear from an editor, please let me know. I'll be glad to do anything I can to help as we work to gain acceptance and recognition in the world of literary reviews.

Please get me your review requests for the December 15 issue by the first of the month. Remember, you may also review movies, magazines, and other media which are of interest to the general reader with a literary concern.

Congratulations to everyone for a terrific second effort. I look forward to more good work.

Best,
Kate

The magazine is on track to go live Monday, as per schedule, and the quality of the contributions has far exceeded my expectations.

The permanent URL is: http://www.etext.org/Zines/Critique

The message board is now active but the chat room is on hold. The message board may also be accesed through the link from the index page and any "Talkback" link.

Another note: you can now reach this page by opening the "About the Staff" link off the index page, scrolling all the way to the bottom and clicking on "For the Staff>>"

Galley changes should reach me by Monday morning. If you notice errors after that time, however, please let an editor know. The beauty of web publishing is that nothing is ever set in stone.

Thanks again for a job well done!

Kate

The first of the reviews are starting to come in and they look wonderful. I want to thank everyone for taking so much time to work on this project; your dedication and enthusiasm have already far exceeded my expectations and I look forward to a wonderful first issue.

After this issue is published, we want to start blanketing publishers with requests for advance copies. If you are interested in helping with that process, please contact the publisher. I have stationary which I can personalize with your name and address.

If you do not want to help with the mailing, but have the name of a contact person whom you think would be open to considering our publication, or if you have ideas for making this process more successful, please let me know. Once again, thank you for your time.

Best,
Kate

Welcome to the staff section of Critique. Since several people had problems reading the attachments, this section has been opened in anticipation of the full site. Currently, the Staff Manual, Assignments, and Contact Sheet sections are the only operating links. Included on the Assignments page is a form you can use to submit your review ideas and requests. It's there for your convenience, and if you prefer to e-mail me directly, that option is always open. Be sure to check this space frequently for announcements and updates. Unless I contact you directly, this is the only medium for news upon which you should rely.

Best,
Kate
