Bootleg salt lake's occasional anarchist rag ########################### adopt-a-mcdonalds, ALF style Jeremy Rifkin's group, Beyond Beef, has urged activists to "adopt-a-MacDonald's" by handing out flyers, buttons and balloons in front of MacRestaurants to persuade burger eaters to cease their misguided ways. the animal liberation front has taken the campaign a step further. in the early morning hours of december 25, 1992, animal liberation front activists in victoria, british columbia, paid a yuletide visit to mcdonalds on pandora avenue, delivering gifts of painted walls and broken windows. one week later, early on new years day, we descended upon williams quality meats on blanshard street, superglueing bits of toothpick into their locks. as far as we know, these are the first ALF actions to occur in victoria. but ALF attacks do not just "occur." they are the work of womyn and men who are no longer able to sit back and allow terrible, cruel things to happen. now more than ever before, we must remember the four-leggeds and the scaly ones. we will continue our war; but alone we cannot possibly do enough, fast enough. animal oppression is everywhere. involvement in the animal liberation front begins with your first liberation or act of economic sabotage. do not try to find us, get together with a group of friends whom you know you can trust. animal liberation is virtually a stone's throw away. careful... no evidence... ########################### nerve gas and black plague in lovely Tooele county The Army has begun testing 7 biological agents at Dugway after a ten year break and considerable expense to rebuild the lab safely(sic). The Army is testing a hand held monitor that will detect the presence of biological agents launched by an enemy. It is strictly for defensive purposes. The seven disease-causing organisms include those that cause Q fever, anthrax, rabbit fever, botulism, and bubonic (black)plague. These and two other agents will be mixed with air in a process known as aerolization. In the Late sixties, an accidental release of nerve gas was believed to have been the cause of death of over 800 sheep . The army has never admitted involvement. They have admitted, however, that conscientious objectors were used during the Vietnam War as biological weapons guinea pigs. The Tooele County commissioners(all Republicans) want to exchange 20 million dollars to build a hospital in exchange for the incineration of the nation’s chemical and biological weapons stockpile. (It better be a Damn good hospital) The Tooele Depot holds 40% of US. nerve gas. Unfortunately, the Army has yet to build a good working model to incinerate of what they never should have built in the first place. They have no complete idea of what comes out of the smokestack and have had numerous technical problems. In every state, where they have tried to build one, citizen opposition has stopped it. There has been little outcry in Utah. Don’t you think it’s about time? or would it have been better if it had exploded in Israel, killing three jews, and Israeli troops had shot seven palestinians in retaliation as riots broke out that night, meanwhile Israel uses the incident to further attack palestinian resistance, dragging key people in for interrogation? maybe we should have stuck the bomb in Mogadishu, killed four american soldiers and get the middle class thirsty for blood, dig in and start another war. why not New York? why not on American soil? why not bring the war home? or even more importantly, who really placed the bomb? who benefited most from the incident? conservative think tanks are clamoring for an increase in the power of the CIA and the FBI. senators have given speeches urging congress to “reconsider it’s approach” to terrorism. national security is at stake. anti-arab and anti-muslim violence is on the rise. can you hear the rumbling of the alien and sedition acts? are you aware that during times of “national crisis” the president has the power to suspend the bill of rights? have you seen the red glow in Bill Clinton’s eyes? is it even legal to print this stuff? is it legal to shout fire in a crowded theater, if there actually is a fire? the fact that this manifesto may actually be illegal should be alarming in and of itself. this is not a call to arms (because that would most certainly be illegal) but a call to awareness (because that sounds better and is harder to prosecute). this is not to suggest we all start planting bombs in strategic locations, or picking off high officials, or vandalizing heavy equipment. this is neither a condemnation of nor an urge towards terrorism (although the headline is, admittedly, questionable). wake up, there is a war on. we did not declare it, but we may have no choice but to fight it. in solidarity with the peoples of palestine, somalia and iraq, the Black Friday League editor's note: i got this in the mail and thought it was a pretty good joke! ########################### KRCL is public radio. How then, does KRCL justify running public service announcements for Jobcorps in Clearfield, a penal institution for minors, immersed in corruption, violence and sexual exploitation, privately owned and run for profit? How then, does KRCL justify sponsoring and promoting acts in private clubs, clubs with high cover charges where the "economically disenfranchised" are systematically kept out and any KRCL listener under 21 is denied the opportunity to be a part of this "community" station? How then, does KRCL justify playing "sponsor identification" promos that are, to any intelligent listener, advertisements, the aspect of private radio most important for public radio to avoid? This is not meant to be an attack on KRCL. We are concerned listeners and feel that these issues need to be addressed. We are alarmed and outraged at the increased conservative slant of a resource we feel is priceless to the community of Salt Lake.
