Contributing Members, Part 2 ------------------------------------------ INTRO ===== You might notice a theme to this issue: it begs for feedback and active participation from Goodies fans. I'm looking for sound files, artwork, transcriptions, petition organizers, as well as your thoughts and ideas to make The Goodies Fan Club the best that it can be. I hope you can help me accomplish this. So, on with this special "interactive" issue... :) MEMBER'S SUGGESTIONS ==================== The second instalment of a regular column where members' opinions, questions and ideas are aired. -- Fan Club Member Renee Strong (strong_ra@uncl04.ntu.edu.au) writes: "Got a new member for you, but she doesn't have an email account... what to do? Anyone can join The Goodies Fan Club; but if they don't have an email account, I'm afraid they'll have to miss out on club-related events and news (including this newsletter!), not to mention access to the Homepage. However, if someone without an internet account would still like to join, they should do the following: FROM WITHIN THE UK: * Send a self-addressed, A4 envelope with 1UKpound postage to: Melinda Casino 477 Rochfords Gardens Slough Berkshire SL2 5XF United Kingdom I'll send the latest issue of "Goody Goody Yum Yum," Matthew Sharp's Episode Guide, and The Goodies (mini) FAQ; perhaps even other documents if I can with that amount of postage. OUTSIDE THE UK: * Send a self-addressed envelope that's at least 8 X 11 inches with an appropriate amount of enclosed IRCs to the above address. (I'm not sure how many IRCs of what value you should send, but please do keep in mind that The Goodies Fan Club has no income or petty cash, so if extra postage were needed it would come out of my own pocket.) -- Andrew, aka "Ibbsy," (951617@ironbark.bendigo.latrobe.edu.au) comments about The Goodies Fan Club Homepage: "It's great that you've got all these quotes but how about if you had some downloadable sound files for them?" That's a great suggestion! Trouble is, I don't know how to make sound files, but I'm willing to upload them if someone can provide them. Please donate your resources if you can -- it'll add to everyone's enjoyment of the Homepages. If you can help, please contact me. ANNOUNCEMENT: THE GOODIES MAILING LIST ====================================== I've finally succeeded in finding a suitable host for GOODIES-L, the new mailing list devoted to the world of The Goodies. Many thanks to America Online's "Give Back the Net" program and to David B. O'Donnell, AOL's Internet Feedback, Response, and Information Team Manager (whew! what a title... :). To find out more about the "Give Back the Net" program, email David at . Anyone who wishes to join this list can send a message to: LISTSERV@LISTSERV.AOL.COM with this typed in the first line of the body of the message: SUBSCRIBE GOODIES-L firstname_lastname For example: SUBSCRIBE GOODIES-L Bill Oddie (No subject line is needed.) To find out more about the mailing list, point your web browser to: http://www.cathouse.org/BritishComedy/Goodies/FanClub/Info/GOODIES-L.html Hope to see you there! :) BILL ODDIE'S LETTER =================== As club members are aware, I've written to Graeme Garden, Tim Brooke-Taylor and Bill Oddie on behalf of the club. I've just received a friendly hand-written letter from the latter. Here's an excerpt: "Thanks for your letter. As you'll gather from *this* one -- I personally am very low tech. However, a computer-obsessed friend did tell me that 'GOODIES' existed on the Net. Thanks... "I don't have a proper P.C. myself and, to be honest, I'm not much into the whole thing. But I dare say Tim is (I *dont' think* Graeme is, despite the scientific image...). I imagine Tim is blocking cyberspace even now. Good luck to him." Bill (we're now on a first-name basis :D) also took the time to draw a very charming comical little duck at the top of the letter. Well done Bill! I recently checked out "Birdwatching with Bill Oddie" from the Slough library, and his ability to accurately sketch birds from different perspectives is very impressive indeed. Perhaps the most important thing gained from this letter is regarding the song lyrics: Bill gave me permission to "do what you want with them." Groovy, Bill! So I've begun adding more songs to the Homepage including that classic pub-drinking song, "The Jolly Rock Light." If you can transcribe song lyrics, please do! Take a look at what's already at the Homepage first. Then send all transcriptions to: goodies@badger.idiscover.co.uk. DAVID WHEATON'S EMAIL TO THE ABC ================================ Australian Fan Club Member David Wheaton (davo@melb.alexia.net.au) recently emailed the Australian Broadcasting Corporation about showing "The Goodies" on ABC again. Many thanks to David for taking initiative. Here is the reply he received. --------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for contacting the ABC by Internet. Sorry to advise that our rights to screen The Goodies have expired. Some of the programs were shown seven times and there are no current plans to purchase new television rights to the series. Yours sincerely Jane Shaw ABC Corporate Relations --------------------------------------------------------- "No current plans to purchase new television rights"...? Oh dear. Doesn't sound like a very good excuse to me. You know what that means, fellow Goodies... PETITION!!! Surely the ABC will crumble under the considerable strength of WABBIT POWER! I'm calling on all Goodies Fan Club Members to email me *your* ideas for getting the BBC and ABC to air "The Goodies" again. The BBC has just re-run some episodes of Monty Python on late-night; now it's "The Goodies"' turn. I think the best way to make an impact on TV stations would be to combine this Fan Club's efforts with The Goodies Fan Club of Australia (GFCOA). As you know, I've written to Melinda Huber, President of GFCOA, about organizing this, but I've yet to receive a response. If any Australian fan club member has heard anything from the GFCOA, please do let me know. GOODIES TRIVIA ============== This tidbit of Goodies Trivia comes from Tom Vrankar (twv@philo.ssd.ray.com), who writes: "My recollection is vague, but I believe that Bill Oddie sang on the only non-instrumental piece on Rick Wakeman's (periodic "Yes" keyboardist) solo album 'Rick Wakeman's Criminal Record.' Contrary to its name, the album was quite good. Because of their humorous nature, I think the words that Oddie sang were of his own invention; the track was titled 'The Breathalyzer.' I no longer have the album, but expect it dates from the late '70s or early '80s." Anyone have this album? I'll put the song lyrics up if they're sent to me. CONTRIBUTING MEMBERS, PART 2 ============================ Many thanks to David McAnally , who has emailed me a "Goodies/I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again" crossword puzzle that he and his mother created. It's still being revised, but when the final version is completed, I'll make it available on the Homepage. Thanks, David! I'd like to emphasize that if you can contribute the following, please contact me. The Homepage needs: -- sound files (.wav or .au format) -- artwork (decorative mastheads, pictures, etc. -- email me for details) -- picture scans (Tim, Bill, and Graeme in either .jpg or .gif format)* -- song lyrics (from the TV show and the records) -- bit map (If you can make a bit map, please email me!) Please email me first if you can contribute. Thanks. * Some scans are already at cathouse.org, but I'd like more. AND FINALLY... ============== Some of you may have noticed that I haven't sent out drafts of the proposed club mission statement or club procedures document; that's because I'm still working on them and waiting to hear your ideas! I will get them mailed around to everyone before the Big IRC meeting (October 22, 12 PM GMT). Some of you have asked what "Big Bunny Speaks..." is; it's a supplement to this newsletter. When there's information that needs to be distributed right away to club members, I issue a "Big Bunny Speaks...". The last two announced GOODIES-L and warned that the cathouse.org web site was down. Until next time, I'll be baby-sitting Cecily... Melinda Casino aka "Big Bunny" * Special thanks to Paul Rhodes for recovery of this issue.
