Name Our Club Vote ------------------------------------------ MEMBER'S SUGGESTIONS ==================== Welcome to a new regular column in Goody Goody Yum Yum! I'll print whatever questions members have about the club here for discussion at a later date. Hopefully, we'll all be able to meet on IRC (Internet-Relay Chat) and discuss the thoughts and ideas proposed here. -- Three cheers for Alison Bean, who emailed me the following: "...I would like to ask how decisions as to where the club is going, what we are doing, etc., are made. Are they made by simply receiving information via e-mail regarding the issues raised in the newsletter?" Well this question brings up issues of leadership, club procedures, and all that stuff. As head of the fan club and maintainer of the fan club's homepages, I've been making most of the decisions so far, but with considerable input from other members. There are currently three other "Big Bunnies" who will help me with club administration: -- Alison Bean -- Jim Exley -- Matthew K. Sharp Their roles will be defined in a document that has yet to be created: the club statement and the club procedures document. The former would ideally explain the club and its goals as well as some basic principles everyone in the club can support. This would capture the spirit of the club more than the nitty-gritty details of how things are run. The latter would explain how our club is run, what the procedures are for meetings, etc., and explain in detail how other various administrative items are handled. Both documents need to be drafted and distributed amongst members for comment, corrections, input, etc., and then re-evaluated in a second-draft form. There will be plenty of time for members to read the documents and propose amendments (is this sounding constitutional enough? :) . I'm calling on all members, and especially the above three named BBs, to email me with their thoughts on what should go into these documents. I will draft both documents and email them to members at the earliest opportunity. IRC PROPOSED MEETING ==================== I would like to propose Sunday, October 22, 1995 as the first IRC meeting for The Goodies Fan Club. The meeting would start at 6 PM (GMT); after it is closed, members are encouraged to stay on longer to chat and get to know one another. ;) Please send me email on this proposed time and, if this is generally good for everyone, I'll finalize it later this week, with a meeting agenda. I apologize that the date is so far from now, but I want to allow plenty of time for distribution of the club statement and club procedures document, so that we're ready to discuss them at the "virtual meeting." Also, I'm getting married in 5 weeks and am stressed-out to the max with preparing for that Big Event. :)) NEWS: BILL ODDIE TO SPEAK AT ETON COLLEGE ========================================= I came across news of an ex-Goody yesterday where I least expected it: in the local library! There was a flyer promoting Bill Oddie's speaking engagement at the "Bird In The Nest" symposium at Eton College on Tuesday, October 31, 1995. Oddie has been a long-time bird-watcher and no doubt jumped at the chance to speak at this event. Call (01753) 863 849 for more information. I plan to attend the event myself and will report on it in a future issue. ==> If you know of an event that an ex-Goody is attending or hosting, please send me email for inclusion in this newsletter -- thanks! THANKS TO CLUB MEMBERS! ======================= Many members have contributed to the club since it's inception. I would like to thank Jim Exley, Matthew K. Sharp, Alison Bean, David McAnally, David Wheaton, Martin Bell, Drew Campbell Swan, Matthew P. Mason, John Walker and Rita Parr, Aaron Slisco, Dave Budd, Simon Collings, and George Fergus, for all their energy and enthusiasm. You've improved the club tremendously and made it a more informative, fun place for everyone. (Please forgive me if I've left out someone... and bring that oversight to my attention! :)) Also, many thanks to those who have written to the Goodies Fan Club of Australia telling them about this club. I've sent Melinda Huber a letter and hope to hear from her soon. Send your club ideas and suggestions to: goodies@badger.discover.co.uk. NAME OUR CLUB VOTE ================== This is it!
