The files CHECKSUM.EXE and CHKSUM.EXE are the same files with different names. They both give INCORRECT values for checksum of a file. However, they can be used if you remember that the first two bytes of the file being checksummed are not included in the count. You will have to use Debug or some other tool to read the first two bytes, and then manually add their values to the value given by these programs to get the true checksum value of the file. I guess that these first two bytes were reserved for either the actual checksum value of the file being checked (for verification purposes), or were to contain some other check value, such as total byte count, etc. It seems strange that it takes 10k to do the simple task of checksumming, but this may be part of some other program that the contributor uploaded without extracting only the checksum portion. On the other hand, who knows what may lurk therein......
