BBC world service reports that general Aydiid has rejected the secretary- general's proposal to deploy an additional 3000 security personnel in Somalia. 2. Aid workers I have spoken to have mentioned that while the famine is severe all over Somalia (with the exception of the Northeast and Northwest) the probably most affected part of the population are the inter-river clans. In several of the camps surrounding Mogadishu there is a preponderance of Af-may speakers. In Baydhabo one of the feeding centres is inside an old ware-house. Outside of it hundreds of people are waiting to get in and when the doors open and the guards carry away the corpses of those that have died inside, the people waiting press on to get inside. In such situations the guards use sticks to "keep the waiting people in order".
