We made job offers to the candidates from Berkeley and UNC, and hired the Berkeley candidate. In 95-96 we brought in candidates from Wisconsin, Penn, and somewhere else that I can't remember (I'm sure it was a top school however) and hired the one from Wisconsin. In 94-95 we brought in candidates from Wisconsin and UCSD and made an offer to the Wisconsin candidate. We didn't get to make a hire that year, however. I remember all three candidates interviewed in this year's job search were not only from top departments but they had very strong publication records.
