Two, I believe, were at the associate level and the winning candidates were from Univ. New Hampshire (app't primarily to cj) and the other had tenure at Northern Illinois University (soc/cj) but I'm not sure of the Phd granting institution. Both had a proven track record in terms of publications and securing sizeable research grants. The assistant position (soc.) went to a candidate from Columbia. Six years ago the dept. hired two assistant profs.--one from Ohio State (cj) and the other from the New School (soc.). Because the cj dept. falls under the administration of the soc. dept. we seem to have a broader mix of candidates (since so few of the high prestige schools have any criminology/criminal justice programs). Subsequently, the dept. places considerable emphasis on publication record and the ability to secure research funds. Jill McCorkel Univ. of Delaware
