    One must keep in mind that one of the reasons for the relegation of
stuff like cultural studies, textual studies, and discourse studies outside
of the discipline of sociology is the fault of mid-century American Sociology
which, in an attempt to create a demarcation between the American
"Sociological" Theory of Merton and Parsons as the legitimate heirs of
Durkheim, and the illegitimate heirs in Europe who only did "Social" Theory
like Levi-Strauss.
