As for where they were previously, the University of Maryland candidate was at NIH. His position was a dual African-American Studies/field of study position, so he was the only Sociologist interviewed. Our Brandeis Ph.D. was doing some fellowship at Harvard. I was out of town for the other one interviewed for the position. The North Carolina Ph.D. had a 1 year appointment at Wake Forest (was 29 when we hired him too). The University of Wisconsin Ph.D. was a Junior faculty member at Indiana when we hired him.
