First off, Stephane Baldi is a male, not a female (we were office mates
for a year a couple of years back).  Second, one reason for the
discrepancy in specialties between genders is white males are more
likely to be groomed into studying "more traditional" areas than are
people of color or women.  It would be interesting to see to what extent
these differences extend to "traditional" areas such as culture, stats,
religion, etc.
