The rank is open, but the department has a strong preference for making an appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level (Lecturer/Senior Lecturer). The successful candidate is likely to have research interests with an Asian focus and to have a demonstrable interest in teaching in Japan. The department is not specifically seeking a Japan specialist although this is not excluded. A Ph. D. or equivalent qualification is expected. Teaching interests should include classical social theory and a willingness to teach one or more of qualitative methods introductory sociology/introductory social-cultural anthropology. Teaching is in English. The post is tenured and the salary is competitive within the range for Japanese private universities.
