I am looking for some advice on the broad topic of PhD programs in the U.S. I will be applying to PhD programs in the U.S. this fall and have no idea where to spend my hard earned dollars on applications. Can anyone help? I am currently a masters student at the University of Calgary finishing my thesis on youth crime in Canada, specifically specialization and escalation.in offending careers this December. I am looking for a program with a large number of faculty interested in criminology. I have substantial conference experience in Canada and will be presenting at the ASC meetings in November. My GPA is just below 3.7 on a 4 point, with one poor mark (B) in graduate statistics (general linear model). I guess I basically need to find out where someone with my interests would be dying to go do a PhD. My main concerns are Funding (capital F) as well as length of completion: ie. will they acknowledge my MA course work. I am also looking to stay in the Western part of the US but always open to other possibilities. Rankings are somewhat important to me but I will be applying all over the board. Of course my Masters thesis/degree won't be sufficient to show my ability to handle grad school so I will have to write our belove GRE. Does anyone have suggestions on a good book for preparing, something you found valuable. Any tips on writing the exam? Thanks in advance for your help. Salut!
