bob, if you want to use an interesting compiliation of readings in the
area of deviance, i would recommend a new book by adler and adler called
_constructions of deviance_ this is not the full title; the book is in my
office at the moment.  it not only includes recent articles in the area,
dealing with a wide variety of topics from "illnesses" to tattooing and
piercing, but also some classic readings (durkheim's "normal and
pathological", goffman's "moral career of the mental patient", etc...)
