Jim, I heard something like that too, on the rumor mill.  Our 
university (Our Lady of the Lake University) is instituting an M.A. 
in Sociological Practice.  There is also a bill in our House and 
Senate (statewide) to initiate examination and certification of 
Sociological Practitioners.  Our Department Chair, Dr. Thomas 
Langham, has been instrumental in this.  He believes that 
Sociological Practitioners with an M.A. will soon be earning more 
than Ph.D.'s in Sociology.  In case he's not on target, I'm going for 
the Ph.D.  I can always pick up a Sociological Practice M.A. and 
certification if needed later.
