And...if you know of others outside of those in Texas doing good work on non-linear social dynamics, I'd be most interested in hearing about it since I do try to stay current. To add to your point, however, I can say that Dragan Milovanovic and Bruce Arrigo and Ron Scherh are doing work on non-linear social processes but it is not empirically grounded is the stuff in Texas. Then there is the Santa Fe Institute...again, largely conceptual.
