TR ********** Subject: www-based learning tools for social theory students (fwd) The coMentor Project: Internet-based Tools for Social Theory and Philosophy Students The coMentor project has recently been set up at Huddersfield University to develop software tools to aid students learning social theory and philosophy. coMentor aims to provide a virtual environment, accessible over the world wide web, in which students can engage in collaborative learning. The system will be based on a visual multi-user domain (MUD) supported by tools developed using the Java programming language. As a preliminary stage of the project, we are currently investigating the special difficulties and needs experienced by students learning social theory and philosophy. As part of this investigation, we have developed a questionnaire on students' attitudes and strategies towards learning these subjects. We would be grateful for any opportunity to have this questionnaire publicised at other institutions. If you feel you could help with this, or would like more information about coMentor, please visit our web site: http://www.hud.ac.uk/comentor There is a copy of our questionnaire at this site which can either be filled in by students logging on to the site themselves, or printed out and distributed to students. We would also be grateful for any other suggestions regarding the project. (This item has been sent to several lists, so apologies if you receive it more than once).
